Lexicosports: the go-to dictionary of sport

To showcase the use of the French language at this Italian edition of the Games, the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Sport have launched Lexicosports.

This online platform is a comprehensive trilingual lexicon (French, English, Italian), compiling all the technical terminology of every Olympic and Paralympic discipline. The app was fully updated for Milan Cortina 2026 to offer:

  • Clear, authoritative definitions for each discipline;
  • Trilingual translations to smooth international exchanges;
  • Quick access to terminology for the newest winter sports.

“Do You Speak Winter Sports?”: terminology at your hand

To complement the app, a dedicated terminology sheet entitled “Parlez-vous sports d’hiver ?” (Do You Speak Winter Sports?), has been published especially for the Games. It was designed by the Ministerial Delegation for Sport in Francophonie (the French-speaking world) to compile key terms from the newest winter disciplines.

Thanks to translations into English and Italian, enthusiasts and professionals alike may master expert vocabulary and confidently enjoy the Games in French.
